Cuneyt Ozdas has written and contributed to many Max plugins. He's recently sold many of them, but still offers two free ones at his site: https://cuneytozdas.com/3ds-max-plugins/
The plug-in on that page that's a real lifesaver for Max/Plasma builders is Texporter. This plug-in gives users of early Max versions the ability to save out UV maps to a 2D graphic file - TIF, JPG, PNG, DDS, you name it.
It's been around forever, but I just learned of its existence!
Texporter's installer is super-clean and easy; don't worry about running this .exe. file!
Install it, then open your Utilities tab and click the "More" button; it's in the list there.
(Edited May 2018 - Ozdas changed his whole website, and wiped a Texporter tutorial he once hosted.)
